Objectives of lipofilling
Lipofilling, also known as liposculpture or fat transfer, is a surgical technique used to augment or reshape certain parts of the body using the patient’s own fat, harvested by means of mini-liposuction.
Commonly treated areas include the breasts, buttocks, face (for wrinkle filling or cheek contouring), hands and body contours.
Fat is removed from an area of the body where there is excess fat (e.g. the stomach or inside the knees), and reinjected into another area where volume is to be restored.
This approach may seem invasive, but it has the advantage of being long-lasting. Part of the fat injected during lipostructure will remain permanently in place, so injections do not need to be systematically repeated.
Another advantage of this technique is that since patients are injected with their own fat, there is no risk of rejection.

Procedure
The lipofilling process begins with liposuction, during which fat is removed from a donor area of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs or hips. The harvested fat is then purified and prepared before being reinjected into the target area.
Post-operative care
After the procedure, it is normal to experience a certain degree of swelling and bruising in the treated areas. It may take several weeks for the swelling to subside completely, and bruising may take a little longer to disappear.
You may also experience some pain, stiffness or discomfort in the areas where liposuction and lipofilling have been performed. However, this can be easily managed with painkillers prescribed by your doctor.
During the recovery period, you should limit strenuous physical activity, avoid carrying heavy loads and avoid sitting or lying directly on the treated areas for some time.
Your surgeon may recommend that you wear a compression garment to help reduce swelling. He or she will also give you recommendations on how to clean and protect the incisions. Follow these recommendations to optimize the healing process and maximize the results of your surgery.
It should also be noted that some of the fat reinjected will be naturally resorbed by the body over time. You may therefore notice a reduction in volume in the weeks or months following the procedure. Touch-up sessions may sometimes be necessary to maintain results over the long term.
