What is a graft?
A hair graft is a small unit of follicles harvested from a donor area, usually at the back of the skull.
Each graft contains between 1 and 4 hairs, depending on the patient’s natural hair density.
During a hair transplant, these grafts are gently re-implanted into the recipient areas to enable natural hair regrowth.
This process guarantees not only homogeneous density but also a pleasing aesthetic, favoring hair that blends harmoniously with the rest of the scalp.

Before the operation
The first consultation is essential to assess the situation, clarify your expectations and choose the appropriate technique. To guarantee your long-term satisfaction, it’s essential to anticipate the future evolution of your hair. If you’re still young and your baldness is likely to evolve, it’s generally better to keep a donor area for a later transplant than to maximize the number of hairs implanted during the procedure.
Procedure
The donor and recipient areas are numbed using a local anesthetic.
The sampling stage varies according to the technique chosen:
- With the FUE technique, individual grafts are harvested using a small cannula fitted with suction.
- With the FUT technique, they are harvested from a strip of skin cut from the back of the skull. The incision is closed with sutures. The scar is hidden among the remaining hair.
The grafts are then prepared by separating the follicular units according to size and shape, and re-implanted into the recipient area using a fine needle or specialized instrument to create small holes in the skin where the grafts are carefully placed.
Once all the grafts have been implanted, a PRP treatment completes the result. The treated area is then cleaned and a dressing applied.
Post-operative care
You will be able to go home the same day as the procedure. Follow your surgeon’s instructions to optimize the healing process, the result of your hair transplant and avoid any infection or complications.
Both the donor and recipient areas may be tender and painful for the first few days following the procedure. Pain medication may be prescribed to relieve discomfort. Swelling and bruising around the implanted and donor areas are common. These may take several days to disappear.
Scabs and rashes may form around implanted grafts.
It is advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity for the first few weeks after the procedure to avoid excessive pressure on the implanted area.
It usually takes several months for the implanted area to heal completely and for the results to become visible. The transplanted hair will fall out in the first few weeks after the procedure, but will begin to grow back after about three months.
