The “pony-tail lift” is a relatively recent face-lift technique that takes its name from the English translation of “ponytail”. This lifting method is based on the idea of creating vertical and upward tension using the deep tissues of the face to achieve a natural lift. As with other facelift techniques, the plastic surgeon makes discreet incisions around the temples and ears. However, the particularity of this method lies in the way the tissues are lifted and fixed. Through these incisions, the surgeon accesses the deeper layers of the face and uses special sutures or support devices to create vertical tension in the facial tissues. This tension repositions sagging tissues upwards and backwards, producing an overall lifting effect. The technique is primarily aimed at rejuvenating the lower face, including the jowls and jawline. One of the advantages of the pony-tail lift is that it achieves natural results by taking advantage of the natural tissues of the face rather than using implants or artificial sutures. What’s more, this technique is generally associated with a shorter recovery period than other, more invasive facelift methods.
