Your blepharoplasty in Lausanne

Would you like to revitalize sad or tired-looking eyes? As we age, excess skin on the upper eyelid can lead to a sad or tired look, which can even make it difficult to open the eyes.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, removes this excess skin.

Our upper and lower blepharoplasty procedures are designed to rejuvenate your eyes naturally and harmoniously in our Lausanne clinic.

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin from the upper eyelids, giving a more awake, refreshed appearance. Lower blepharoplasty reduces under-eye bags, dark circles and fine lines, for a rested, rejuvenated look. Lower eyelid surgery can be combined with lipofilling of dark circles.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, under local anaesthetic, and lasts between 45 minutes and one hour. You can return home the same day.

Differences between upper and lower blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty

Surgical objectives

Upper blepharoplasty generally aims to remove excess skin, fat and sometimes muscle from the upper eyelids to correct drooping eyelids.

Results

Upper blepharoplasty can help open up the eyes and rejuvenate the appearance of the face by eliminating heavy, drooping eyelids.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Surgical objectives

Lower blepharoplasty is performed to reduce bags under the eyes, dark circles or fine lines around the eyes by removing excess fat and skin under the lower eyelids.

Results

Lower blepharoplasty can give a more rested, rejuvenated appearance by reducing under-eye bags and smoothing the area around the lower eyelids.

Questions and answers about blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty procedure

Before the operation

The procedure begins with an initial consultation with your aesthetic surgeon specializing in blepharoplasty. You will be able to tell him or her your expectations, and he or she will make sure that you have a good indication for the procedure.

At the end of this interview, you will receive a precise and complete estimate for your eyelid surgery.

Procedure

Eyelid surgery is performed under local anesthesia or sedation, depending on your preferences and the complexity of the planned procedure.

Your surgeon will then make discreet incisions in the natural folds of the eyelid to conceal the scars. For upper blepharoplasty, the incision will be made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid.

For lower blepharoplasty, the incision can be made just below the lash line or on the inside of the eyelid. The surgeon will then remove excess skin, fat and/or muscle.

Incisions are closed with stitches. Total surgery time varies from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.

After the operation

After the operation, your surgeon will give you instructions to follow carefully, concerning post-operative care, medication and activity restrictions.

It is quite normal to experience bruising and swelling around the operated eye(s). These symptoms can last from several days to several weeks, depending on the individual patient and the extent of the operation.

You may feel a slight pain or tightness around the eyes, but this can be easily alleviated with anti-inflammatories and painkillers prescribed by your surgeon.

Deadlines and results

The final results of blepharoplasty may take several weeks to stabilize completely, but you’ll be able to appreciate your new look as early as the second post-operative week.

It’s important to note that scars never disappear completely, but over time they can fade and become less visible. It’s also important to avoid exposure to the sun, and to wear adequate sun protection to protect the scarred area while it heals.
