Procedure for abdominoplasty
First consultation
This step is essential to enable the surgeon to examine you, assess your needs and expectations, and make sure there are no contraindications. At the end of this interview, you will receive a precise estimate for your operation.
Anaesthesia
Abdominoplasty is generally performed under general anesthesia, which means that you will be asleep throughout the operation.
Incision
The surgeon makes a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen, just above the pubis. The length of the incision will depend on the amount of skin to be removed. An incision is sometimes made around the navel to isolate it from the surrounding skin.
Suturing muscles
The surgeon lifts the skin and underlying tissues to access the abdominal muscles, which can then be tightened by suturing them together to create a firmer, flatter stomach.
Removal of excess skin and fat
Excess skin and fat are removed to create a smoother, flatter abdomen.
Repositioning the navel
If necessary, the navel is repositioned in its new location.
Suture
